Thomas the Train

This past Saturday Liam got to ride Thomas the Train in Connersville. It was a beautiful day and I've never been to Connersville before. The train ride was a little disappointing. I thought, by the looks of the White Valley Railroad website, that it would be wooded and pretty country landscape. Instead, it was in the middle of town, next to the county jail, and the scenery from the 30 minute train ride was a car junk yard and a train graveyard. Liam got his ticket punched then he threw it out the window. Oh well. He had fun. He had his first snow cone which he enjoyed and he got to meet Sir Topham Hatt which he didn't enjoy. He actually screamed in fear when he saw him. Maybe next year, if we go again, he will enjoy it more.

Twins Hernia Surgery

So Gavin and Elliott needed hernia surgery. Riley hospital schedules the surgery without giving the patient a choice of when. Guess what? They scheduled it on Kevin and I's 4th wedding anniversary. No big deal really. I was a nervous wreck about the boys having surgery. Even though it is a routine surgery, they are only 2 months old. The surgery went great. Gavin went first and he only needed surgery on the left side. They called me on my cell phone to come to the recovery room to see him. They had already taken Elliott back when Gavin was in recovery, so I still was a mess. The recovery room is a sad, scary place. Every major surgery is done on this floor, so when I was back I saw kids of all ages waking up. Some were not happy campers. I held it together and carried Gavin to his room. Normally hernia surgery is a outpatient surgery, but since the boys are so young they had them stay the night. They were assigned 2 rooms next to one another. This was a major pain in the butt. They refused to put them in the same room. Kevin was unable to stay the night because of Liam. I was not prepared to run from room to room all night. The rooms were super nice. We were in the new part of Riley and the rooms are huge and feel like a hotel. Each child gets a massive flat screen t.v. with a Wii and dvd player. We had an awesome view of the city. While we were checking out the rooms, the recovery room called to let me know that Elliott was out of surgery and doing great. Elliott's hernia was worse than Gavin's and it was on both his left and right side. Bummer. They said that they would bring Elliott up to us rather than us coming to him. I was very thankful for this. I didn't need another visit to the recovery room.

Once the boys were settled in their rooms, Kevin left to get his computer from the car. I was sitting with Gavin and I heard a baby screaming. I thought to myself "poor baby", then I realized that the "poor baby" was my baby in the next room. Yuck. Elliott was screaming his head off alone in his room. No nurse came to his rescue. This put me over the edge. Kevin's mom came up to visit the boys and to pick up Kevin. I was crying because I knew that I wouldn't be able to keep running back and forth. Dianne decided that she would come back to the hospital and stay the night with me. I was so relieved. I kept complaining to anyone that would listen about the boys not being in the same room. The doctors all agreed that they should be together, but the nurses would not budge. Each boy had a different nurse. I understand that they worry about getting the boys meds confused but they were only on tylenol.

Anyway, the boys are home and doing great. Riley is an incredible hospital and I admire all the nurses and doctors that take care of these little kids. I could never do it.
